Italian Ambassador to Türkiye, Giorgio Marrapodi visits Soyer

Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, Tunç Soyer, hosted Italy's Ambassador to Türkiye, Giorgio Marrapodi, in his office. Mayor Tunç Soyer said, "The world is moving fast, but we should look at our planet with a different perspective and slow down.  The solution is to be in harmony with nature. Even more challenging times await us. Solidarity and harmony with nature are the solutions."

Italy's Ambassador to Türkiye, Giorgio Marrapodi, who came to İzmir for the opening of the "Journey to Italy: Sea and Mountain" exhibition at the Ahmed Adnan Saygun Art Center and the inauguration of Italy's İzmir Consulate Building, visited Tunç Soyer, Mayor of İzmir, in his office. During the visit, Italy's İzmir Consul, Valerio Giorgio; Counsellor to the Mayori, Onur Eryüce and Ruhisu Can Al, as well as Tuğçe Cumalıoğlu, the International Relations Coordinator of IZFAŞ, were also present.

Soyer: "We should slow down"

Mayor of İzmir, Tunç Soyer, spoke about İzmir's Cittaslow process, stating that İzmir was the first Cittaslow metropolis. Mayor Soyer said, "This philosophy has touched many areas. The world is moving fast, but we should look at our planet with a different perspective and slow down.  The solution is to be in harmony with nature. Even more challenging times await us. Solidarity and harmony with nature are the solutions."

"We are waiting for your support"

During the meeting, Italy's Izmir Consul, Valerio Giorgio, mentioned that they were organizing the İzmir Design workshop. Mayor Tunç Soyer suggested, "Let's integrate these designs into our IF Wedding Fashion Izmir fair. This way, we can expand their impact and ideas." Mayor Soyer also mentioned that the Botanic EXPO would be held in 2026 and said, "The support of our friends is very valuable. We are also a candidate for the European Youth Capital in 2026. We ask for your support for this as well."

Mayor Tunç Soyer mentioned that they would translate the book prepared by the Consulate on İzmir-Italy relations into Turkish.

Marrapodi: “We will support”

Giorgio Marrapodi, Ambassador of Italy to Turkey said, "It is my second visit to İzmir, a beautiful city. İzmir is the beating heart of Türkiye. We want to increase promotional activities; we should do more in İzmir. Despite the low budget, the İzmir Consulate is doing excellent work." Ambassador Marrapodi expressed their support for İzmir's candidacy for European Youth Capital.
